Look outside just don’t read between the lines
I’m wide awake, I’m stuck in outer space
Oh where do you go when you woke but you got one foot out the door?
Ooh I’m hearing something - sad sorrow - their footsteps on the ceiling, but the writing’s on the wall
What are you afraid of?
I’m sitting outside wondering why I try
Take it easy
Writing it down, mulling it over
Alone at Night
Take a break, you can’t do it anyway
Same old song, been singing all along
I’m a soul breather — I’m waiving all the rules, speaking truth
I’m a bold Syrian - breaking down the ceiling, following my call
about
On an oddly quiet night in the Spring of 2020, I found a moment to myself, overlooking a still Chicago skyline, void of traffic in the streets or airplanes overhead, and penned Alone at Night. It’s odd to think that just two years ago, there was an eerie calm all around us, stores closed, blinds drawn, while tense uncertainty and fear were growing to a boil. We'd always written our songs together, gathering in our usual practice space on the top floor of my home, bouncing ideas off one another. Alone at Night was the first song that we wrote apart from one another, isolated. Ben Phillips created the initial music, inspired by newfound love in conjunction with the fear that the pandemic cast on us all. He shared a rough draft with the band, at which point I began writing on my quiet balcony. We finally gathered 18 months later at Narwhal Studios in Chicago and spent two days recording, writing, and sharing ideas as a group. I hope you enjoy our dreamy new single. - Bassel
